The University of Massachusetts Psychology Department offers training in several substantive areas, organized internally into four "divisions" described below. It also offers postdoctoral and clinical respecialization training.

- Behavioral Neuroscience makes up Division I. It offers graduate training only through the Neuroscience and Behavior Program.
- Cognitive Psychology and Developmental Science constitute Division II.
- Social Psychology together with the Concentration in the Psychology of Peace and Violence make up Division III.
- Clinical Psychology constitutes Division IV
