NEW - NEW - NEW     BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED

"Per the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees Policy on Employee Background Reviews, all offers of employment or hires made after January 23, 2012, will be subject to a background review that includes a criminal history check as a condition of employment. Information about the policy can be found at www.umass.edu/humres/empl_job_opportunities.htm. Notification should be given to individuals who will be appointed via a waiver of the search process.  This policy and procedure shall apply to campus positions that are filled by appointment on a full-time or part-time basis, including temporary (CC) full-time or parttime appointments, and post retiree appointments.  This is now an important piece to your waiver-hire process.  We have been asked to begin to include the statement, "University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees policy requires all new employees to pass a background review that includes a criminal history check as a condition of employment. Information about the policy can be found at www.umass.edu/”, on all job postings and announcement.

Approved searches will be alerted to tell finalists of the newly implemented hire requirement.  At the time that interviews are extended, it will be important to alert the finalists that the successful candidate will need to undergo a background check.
